[Mac_crypto] Encrypting fixed drives?

Has anyone on this list tried partitioning their main hard disc
on a Mac and then formatting one of the partitions as an encrypted
filing system? I'd be curious as to if this works in a useful way
at startup time. It's worth noting that if you mount a disc from
the command line (using hdiutil) you still get a prompt _window_
asking for the pass phrase for that image. This is because the
keys for this are managed by the CDSA layer which is built into
the kernel and knows how to open windows. As long as your System
is not on an encrypted partition there is a fighting chance that
the same thing will happen when you boot your machine.

So, have any of you tried this?
