Subject: [e-gold-list] Hushmail - what a shame
Date: Wed, 9 Apr 2003 12:17:29 +1200

It is sad to see technology with as much potential as Hushmail go down the
drain so fast. Hushmail have made it more and more difficult for the average
user to enjoy their services over the last year.

Now, they have made a change that virtually makes Hushmail unusable...

Until recently, you could upload your public key and anyone with a Hushmail
account could send you encrypted e-mail. This made Hushmail worthwhile. Last
week, Hushmail stopped supporting public keys that use the CAST algorithm,
which has been the standard for many years.

In effect, this means that any PGP key with a chain of trust from years of
use must be thrown away and replaced with a newly generated key that uses
the AES algorithm if you wish to communicate with Hushmail users. Obviously
this is ridiculous, so Hushmail users... even the Premium paid up users
can't communicate with any PGP user who has a key older than say a year or
so...

I have e-mailed Hushmail about this, but of course they don't reply... their
customer service has always been atrocious... I was also trying to become a
Hushmail affiliate... three attempts with no response and I give up... it's
not worth it now anyway, Hushmail has been rendered almost completely
useless...

Sidd.
