Hello,
Nicholas here from SecureMac.com, developer of MacScan. The program is not
spyware, there has always been speculation for the spyware programs being
spyware itself however this is not one of them.
The software is not open source, but you and I know there are ways to
figure out what the program is doing, if it sends any packets across the
network and whatnot. We've not had a single person show otherwise, the
program itself does not communicate with any internet service and does not
do anything outside of what it says.
Feel free to take a look around the internet, message board and whatnot to
do your research on the topic. I personally would not risk my company's
(SecureMac.com, Inc.) reputation to put spyware in a program. If MacScan
ever does any sort of calling home it will say so in big bold print. :)
I hope I can answer any more of your questions.
