Summary

As higher network datalink speeds become commonplace, Mac OS server performance has come under closer scrutiny. Developers who write network applications on the Mac are increasingly concerned about performance issues. In many cases though, server throughput and connection latency problems stem from poor application design rather than any assumed deficiencies in Open Transport or the Mac OS.

This Technote is intended for Macintosh developers writing network applications that use the Open Transport API, and discusses techniques you can employ in your design to achieve higher performance.

In response to developer feedback, this Technote formally titled "TN1059: Improving Open Transport Network Server Performance" has been ammended to also address the concerns of client application developers.
